Satellites of Love; Two Writers in the House & On the Road – A Conversation with John K Samson and Christine Fellows

15.10.09

This Fall, UBC’s Creative Writing Professor Meryn Cadell will be joined by songwriters John K Samson and Christine Fellows for discussion at Robson Square Theatre

John K Samson and Christine Fellows, both successful songwriters known for their literary approach to their work, will sit down for a discussion with Meryn Cadell (singer/songwriter and UBC Creative Writing professor) about their creative processes; working with and around each other in the home they share in Winnipeg, which houses both of their music studios.

Samson is the singer and songwriter for the internationally-known band The Weakerthans, and Christine Fellows composes for dance and film, as well as having produced 4 albums, the most recent of which, ‘Nevertheless’ was reviewed in SPIN magazine: "Wryly literary "spinster" unveils a mesmerizing song cycle. – Though Christine Fellows' fourth solo disc appears prim, even haughty ... an impish impropriety pervades her music. Like a one-woman Decemberists." Both The Weakerthans and Fellows have been nominated for the prestigious Polaris Prize in Music. Samson and Fellows will perform live. The songs selected will further illuminate the themes of the discussion.

The discussion will take place on Wednesday, October 21st, 2009 at 8pm in the Robson Square Theatre (Downtown campus of UBC) 800 Robson St. Room C300. It is a free event and open to the public. Please note that seating is limited and no registration is required.
