Overview
Committed to excellence in research and teaching, Arts aspires to be internationally recognized for innovative pedagogical practices and to increase the quality and impact of research and scholarship. The Faculty of Arts is home to more than 13,000 undergraduate and graduate students, over 750 faculty, 250 ongoing support staff, and over 1,000 short-term staff and student employees.
The staff complement of nearly 250 full-time equivalent members (includes permanent/continuing and term appointees, but not student workers or those with appointments of less than a year duration) provides administrative, secretarial, clerical, research, and technical support. Not surprisingly, given the breadth and diversity of activities across the Faculty of Arts, staff are engaged in providing a wide range of services including: student advising, instructional support, information technology and networking support, studio/lab/classroom support, information services, communications, public relations, marketing, development, research facilitation, human resources, and financial management. While a small number of staff members are employed in a non-union or excluded employment category, the remaining staff members belong to either a union or an association–the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 2950 represents administrative support staff, as well as library, costume and property specialists; CUPE 116 represents trade services staff, and research, technical, and engineering assistants; the Association of Administrative and Professional Staff (AAPS) represents management and professional staff.
