POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW: History of International Relations

The Department of History at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the History of International Relations, with a focus on the twentieth century. The International Relations program’s interdisciplinary approach is global in scope, covering the core subjects of History, Political Science, and Economics. The successful candidate will be appointed as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, with concurrent appointment as a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow.
This Postdoctoral position offers the opportunity for innovative and collaborative teaching and research at a leading academic institution and will provide the successful candidate with ample opportunities to contribute to UBC’s History Department and International Relations program and to interact with faculty and students from across the university. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be assigned a faculty member supervisor.
The Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to be appointed for two years, beginning 1 July 2023. Remuneration will be CAD $7,800.00 per 3-credit course (a total of $24,000 for the maximum three 3-credit courses per year) plus benefits with respect to the postdoctoral teaching fellow appointment, and CAD $36,000 plus benefits per year for the postdoctoral research fellow appointment. This Postdoctoral position is subject to final budgetary approval.
Applicants will have been awarded the Ph.D. within five years of the date of commencement of the position. Applicants currently finishing their PhD must complete all of the requirements of their program by the start date of the position.
Successful candidates will be expected to continue to pursue their research program and to carry a teaching load of three single-term courses. Successful candidates would be expected to teach undergraduate courses in a range of fields including twentieth-century world history, American foreign relations, international relations of the Global South, and modern military history. Newly-designed courses reflecting the candidate’s research area will also be considered.

- sample syllabus of a survey course in global history and/or International Relations
