Music Performance (WBP Division) (Sessional Lecturers)

The School of Music is pleased to advertise the following openings in the area of Music Performance (WBP Division), for the 8 instructional months (September 2021 to April 2022) of the upcoming academic session, 2021W.

Preference will be given to applicants with a Doctorate or Masters degree in Music, or comparable professional experience relevant to the position, and to those with a record of successful teaching.  In your cover letter, you should indicate the range of courses that you are able to teach.  You may provide sample syllabi.

We expect to fill positions for the following:

MUSC 150C – Concert Winds

Conduct the UBC Concert Winds, a concert band comprising music majors and non-majors. Manage rehearsals, seating assignments, recruitment of players, and other logistics for the ensemble. Collaborate with the Director of Bands in artistic direction and programming of the ensemble’s 4-concert season, and in supervision of student assistant conductors and student staff members. Candidates for this position should have advanced study in conducting, expert knowledge of wind band literature, and experience leading university or secondary school wind ensembles.

Applied Instruction – Percussion

Teach 24 private lessons (12 per term, 60 minutes each) to each student assigned, at a level appropriate to the student’s major and year. Attendance and evaluation of auditions, juries, and recitals is also expected. The total hours assigned will depend on the number of students registered in the School’s degree programs, which varies from year to year.

Applied Instruction – Bass Trombone

Teach 24 private lessons (12 per term, 60 minutes each) to each student assigned, at a level appropriate to the student’s major and year. Attendance and evaluation of auditions, juries, and recitals is also expected. The total hours assigned will depend on the number of students registered in the School’s degree programs, which varies from year to year.
