Assistant or Associate Professor in Hydrology

The Department of Geography at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver Campus, invites applications for a tenure-stream faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor specializing in hydrology. We encourage applications from scholars: (1) who demonstrate innovative approaches in catchment hydrology and watershed science; and (2) whose research has a strong field component.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in earth and environmental sciences (or closely related fields), an outstanding record of publications relative to their stage of career, and a stage-appropriate record of excellence and creativity in teaching. The appointee is expected to make a significant and distinctive contribution to the department’s programs in Geographical Sciences and Environment & Sustainability. Those considered for Associate rank must have a track record of effective graduate level supervision. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of research, teaching, graduate supervision, and service. Candidates hired into tenured positions must be approved by the appropriate Geography Promotion and Tenure Committee and the university’s Senior Appointments Committee before the appointment can be tenured.

The closing date for applications is September 15, 2023. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.

The anticipated starting date for the position is July 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter, dependent on immigration and travel restrictions.

  3. Research Statement (up to 2 pages) describing your current and proposed research program.
  4. Teaching statement (1 page) describing your teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching effectiveness
  5. Statement (up to 1 page) identifying your past contributions to equity, diversity and inclusion, along with your ability to work with a culturally diverse student body (use specific examples where possible); as well as your philosophy of, and potential future contributions to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  6. Names and contact information for 3 referees.
