 just Beauty and the Beast in disguise? Can vampires have a happily ever aft
 er? </p><p>Vampires share many of the same cultural\, literary\, and folklo
 ric roots as fairy tales but in contemporary representation they are usuall
 y associated with distinctive characteristics - vampires are blood-sucking 
 villains who come out at night while fairy tale characters are heroes on a 
 quest for happiness\, love\, and romance. This talk explores the intersecti
 ons of fairy tales and vampires\, in particular the ways that vampires appe
 ar in fairy tales and how and why fairy tale motifs are used in contemporar
