p>
FirstVoices is an internati
onally recognized online Indigenous language resource that encourages commu
nities to document their language for future generations. Developed by the
First Peoples’ Cultural Council (FPCC) in collaboration with Indigenous com
munities\, FirstVoices contains a suite of web-based tools and services des
igned to support language archiving\, language teaching and culture revital
ization. With over 85 language sites on the platform\, many of which are ac
cessible for public learning\, FirstVoices also provides an opportunity to
build linguistic knowledge and bridge connections with Indigenous language
communities. Using language technology like FirstVoices\, as well as other
FPCC tools like the First Peoples’ Map of B.C.\, we can advance our underst
anding of the languages spoken around the province\, and increase advocacy
for Indigenous peoples’ right to live and speak their languages.
