 /p><div><p><strong>“Untranslatables” Exhibition</strong></p><p>UBC students
  have been invited to share either short essays or digital media projects e
 xploring “Untranslatables”.</p><p>These short essays and media projects the
 matize how some words aren’t easily translated into other languages and ret
 ain their distinct meaning and purpose only in their original form\, explor
 ing what one word or a group of words means through creative means.</p><p>O
 ptions included a 350-500-word definition\; a 750-1000-word personal essay\
 , literary text\, or screenplay\; a short comic\; a short film\, podcast\, 
 vlog\, or series of TikToks\; a short digital game or interactive narrative
  using a platform such as <a href="http://www.twinery.org/">Twine</a>\; a s
 eries of GIFS\, memes\, or Instagram posts\; or a larger creative project u
 sing traditional or mixed media formats. A selection of these short essays 
 and digital media projects will be put on display in the Asian Studies Thea
 ter on Thursday\, November 3rd.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Speech Contest</stron
 g></p><p>At “Multilingualism Means...”\, we invite students to share a 4-to
 -6-minute speech about “What multilingualism means to me.”</p><p>This broad
 er topic allows you to interpret and speak to it in your own way.  It could
  be at a personal level (eg: personal stories\, course work\, experiences\,
  interests\, hobbies etc.)\, and/or at a societal and world level. Students
  are welcome to incorporate slides into their presentations\, but this is o
 ptional.</p><p>“Multilingualism Means...” is a unique opportunity for stude
 nts to share your passion for languages to an audience of your peers\, coll
 eagues\, and instructors\, while developing your public speaking skills!</p
 ><p>Speech contestants will have the exciting opportunity to compete for th
 e first\, second\, and third place prizes!</p></div><div></div>
