Zadie Smith, a highly influential English author, presents her new historical fiction, “The Fraud,” in conversation with renowned Canadian writer Madeleine Thien. This event is free and offered as a gesture of appreciation to the community during the pandemic. For those without tickets, a standby line will be available two hours before the event, allocating empty seats on a first-come, first-served basis. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event through Book Warehouse, a division of Black Bond Books.

Her ability to fuse intricate melodies and styles makes her a standout in modern jazz.
Anoushka Shankar, a nine-time Grammy nominee, is renowned for her exceptional fusion music. Trained by her father, sitar master Ravi Shankar, she swiftly established herself in Hindustani classical music and beyond, even exploring flamenco and film scoring. Her sitar virtuosity blends timeless techniques with modern sounds, attracting collaborators like Sting and Norah Jones. With a new quintet including Arun Ghosh, Sarathy Korwar, Pirashanna Thevarajah, and Tom Farmer, Shankar presents a dynamic sound, performing from her recent mini-album and reimagining past releases, offering an inviting journey through diverse musical realms.
“Shake the Earth!” is a rhythmic celebration merging taiko drummers and percussive dancers, specifically Uzume Taiko and Vancouver Tap Dance Society members. The performance explores the transformation of sound into music and patterns into rhythm, taking the audience on a seasonal journey from the lively energy of the midday sun to the contemplative ambiance of moonlit shadows. Through this collaboration, the event seeks to captivate and inspire dance.
