History Department – Sessional Lecturer positions (2018S and 2018W)

Call for applications to teach in:

Summer Session Term One (14 May to 29 June 2018)

Summer Session Term Two (3 July to 18 August 2018)

Winter Session Term One (September to December 2018)

Winter Session Term Two (January to April 2019)

The History Department invites applications to teach in the 2018 Summer Session and the 2018-2019 Winter Session. Preference will be given to applicants with a Ph.D. and experience in teaching at the college or university level, but applicants without a Ph.D. who are ABD will also be considered. The minimum salary for a 3-credit course in the Faculty of Arts is currently $6,779.

New candidates should include a letter of application, sample course outlines, teaching evaluations, a curriculum vitae, and, if they do not yet hold a Ph.D., a transcript of their academic record. The c.v. must include a list of post-secondary courses taught at UBC and elsewhere. Applicants should indicate which of the History Department’s courses they are interested in teaching. A list of courses is available in the UBC Calendar: http://www.calendar.ubc.ca/vancouver/courses.cfm?page=name&code=HIST.   While we ask for all these materials from new applicants, those who have taught for us before can simply indicate the courses they are interested in teaching along with an updated C.V., and we can re-use existing application materials.

Decisions on course offerings will be made once the department has reviewed recent enrolments and assessed student demand. Because of budgetary constraints, the number of positions available is limited. We will announce our decisions sometime in January 2018.

Applicants may apply for more than one session, and must specify which session(s) they wish to teach. Applicants should ask three referees to forward confidential letters of recommendation under separate cover. Application materials and letters of recommendation should be sent to:
