Congratulations to Mia Booth, Greg Gibson, and Nancy Clarke on receiving the 2025 Dean’s Award for Staff Excellence.

The Faculty of Arts presents an annual award to recognize exceptional staff contributions in administrative, technical, and other specialized areas. The Dean’s Award for Staff Excellence is open to all staff members in the Faculty of Arts.

Mia Booth

Academic Administrator, Department of Theatre and Film

Mia is an extraordinary staff member whose problem-solving brilliance, compassion, and dedication have transformed the Department of Theatre and Film. Stepping into a complex role at full speed, she revolutionized course scheduling, improved student navigation systems, and created clear, effective structures across five demanding programs. Mia supports students with empathy, clarity, and unwavering patience, guiding them through academic, financial, visa, health, and personal crises with exceptional care. She strengthens community through wellness initiatives, fosters equity and accessibility, and consistently anticipates challenges before they arise. Mia’s leadership, creativity, and student-centred approach have immeasurably elevated departmental operations and morale. 


Greg Gibson

Undergraduate Advisor, Department of Art History, Visual Art, and Theory (AHVA)

Greg is an exemplary staff member whose decade of service to the Department of Art History, Visual Art, and Theory has profoundly shaped the department’s strength, culture, and student experience. As Undergraduate Advisor and a long-time alumnus, he brings unparalleled institutional knowledge, compassion, and professionalism to every task. Greg supports faculty leadership, mentors students with empathy and clarity, manages complex curriculum and scheduling needs, and consistently goes far beyond his role, including securing a transformative planned estate gift and elevating key departmental publications. His reliability, generosity, and deep commitment to student success make him an indispensable member of AHVA.


Nancy Clarke

Director of the Bachelor of International Economics (BIE) Career Centre, Vancouver School of Economics

Nancy is an exceptional leader whose vision and dedication have transformed the Bachelor of International Economics Career Centre into a cornerstone of the program’s success. Since assuming leadership in 2014, she has built a high-impact, innovative, and deeply trusted resource that consistently delivers outstanding student outcomes—including internships and job offers from top banks, consulting firms, and government agencies. Nancy’s strategic partnerships, alumni engagement, and efficient, student-centred operations have elevated the BIE’s reputation nationally while supporting students with care, insight, and unwavering commitment. Her leadership has strengthened the Faculty of Arts and UBC as a whole.
