Five UBC Arts community members appointed to the Order of Canada

Five members of the UBC Arts community have been appointed to the Order of Canada, joining others with ties to UBC as current and former faculty, alumni, and honorary degree recipients.

This year’s Arts appointees are honoured for contributions ranging from biomedical ethics and reconciliation to independent media, environmental advocacy, and groundbreaking sound research.

The Order of Canada is one of the country’s highest civilian distinctions, recognizing people whose service shapes our society, whose innovations ignite our imaginations, and whose compassion unites our communities. Its Companions, Officers and Members take to heart the motto Desiderantes meliorem patriam (“They desire a better country”).
