Two Faculty of Arts staff recognized with 2026 President’s Awards
September 22, 2026
Caroline Chadderdon and Cecilia Langill are among the recipients of UBC’s President’s Awards.
Caroline received the President’s Service Award for Excellence, while Cecilia received the President’s Staff Award for Emerging Leadership. The annual awards recognize staff members for outstanding achievement and contributions to UBC.
President’s Service Award for Excellence
This award recognizes staff who make outstanding contributions to UBC through their work, service, and commitment to building an inclusive and welcoming community.
Caroline Chadderdon
As Assistant to the Associate Dean, Faculty, Caroline Chadderdon supports complex faculty processes with professionalism, sound judgment, and care. Her understanding of academic policies, empathy for the student experience, and ability to navigate sensitive situations have made her a trusted colleague and valued contributor to the Faculty of Arts.
Caroline’s contributions also extend beyond her formal role. She has created opportunities for colleagues to build relationships, support psychological health and safety, and engage in shared learning through projects funded by the Healthy Workplace Initiatives Fund.
Among these initiatives, Caroline developed a series of walking tours that combined physical wellbeing with opportunities to engage in Indigenous knowledge, helping to support a more inclusive, respectful, and culturally aware workplace.
Caroline has also led cross-campus efforts to reduce bird collisions in the Buchanan buildings, bringing together researchers, students, and community partners to address the issue. She secured funding through the Indigenous Strategic Initiatives Fund to support a Musqueam public artwork project that promotes learning while creating a lasting visual acknowledgement of the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory on which UBC stands.
Through these initiatives, Caroline has contributed to workplace wellbeing, Indigenous learning, and environmental sustainability across the UBC community.
President’s Staff Award for Emerging Leadership
This award recognizes staff who demonstrate leadership potential through initiative, collaboration, curiosity, and action.
Cecilia Langill
As the Student Engagement Officer in the Faculty of Arts, Cecilia Langill develops programming that enhances the experience of Arts undergraduate students by fostering connection and belonging.
Recognizing a gap in support for first-year students, Cecilia developed Six Week Start, a transition program that extends orientation beyond Imagine Day. She also launched the First Year Forward program, an event series that supports students’ academic and social transition through collaborative programming with partners across the university.
Cecilia also leads the Arts Peer Academic Coaching program and works with hundreds of student leaders each year. Through this work, she helps students build confidence, leadership skills, and a stronger sense of belonging within the UBC community.
Her approach to student engagement is grounded in curiosity, encouragement, and action. Whether working with students, colleagues, or campus partners, Cecilia has demonstrated an ability to turn ideas into meaningful experiences that support student connection and success.
