Darcy

Year and program: 5th year, Linguistics and Sociology double major

Where is home for you? Kelowna, BC

What three adjectives best describe you?

Cheerful, organized, calm

What extracurricular activities have you been involved with (UBC related or not)?

Outside of my studies, I’m part of multiple Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, and I’ve recently started dabbling in conlanging. I’ve swum across Shuswap Lake four times, and I love finding new ways to challenge myself both physically and mentally. If I’m not in class, you can usually find me reading, listening to music, playing video games, or out for a long walk.

What is your best study strategy/tip?

Be flexible and adapt to the current circumstances. Different courses will require different studying strategies, so starting to study a few days ahead of the final gives you the space to adjust your approach as needed. Getting good sleep leading up to the exam and isolating core course concepts to focus on will also help with almost every subject.

If you could travel back in time to your first year at UBC, what is one thing you would do differently?

I would tell my past self to go to office hours and talk to her profs and TAs! It’s a lot easier to ask for help later if you’ve already established that connection.
