Luciana

Year and program: 2nd year, intended Creative Writing major

Where is home for you? Bogota, Colombia

What three adjectives best describe you?

Resourceful, Diligent, Caring

What extracurricular activities have you been involved with (UBC related or not)?

Since arriving at UBC, I’ve met friends and had new experiences in all sorts of places. I joined Latin Dance Club (LDC) and K-Wave because I enjoy dancing. During the first semester, I joined the play my housing community was creating. During the summer, as a Media Coordinated Arts Program (CAP) student, I joined the editing process for the CAP Magazine, known as ‘The Capsule’.

What is your best study strategy/tip?

Studying is all about what works for the specific student. What works for my study style is a combination of time management (I prefer the Pomodoro style) and listening to lo-fi. Having scheduled breaks encourages me to stay motivated for longer while working and gives me an excuse to reward my studies with a sweet treat between time blocks 🙂

If you could travel back in time to your first year at UBC, what is one thing you would do differently?

If I could travel back in time to first year, I’m honestly not sure what I would do differently (it’s only been a few months, so it’s still pretty fresh in my mind), but if I could talk to my past self or send her a letter of advice, I would write six words: ‘you’re going to figure it out’. So I could free my past self sooner from the fear about classes, workload, and making friends, because by the end of the year it all fell into place.
