Latin Literature (Assistant Professor, tenure-track)

The Department of Ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern Studies, at the University of British Columbia, is seeking applications for a tenure-track appointment in Latin Literature (with the ability to supervise topics in Latin verse) at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1st, 2024.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Classics or a related field by the time of their appointment. The successful candidate will have potential for excellence in research and involvement in professional scholarly activity. They will demonstrate strong commitment to outstanding teaching with the ability to teach Latin Literature and related topics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and to supervise graduate-level research in Latin verse. Longlisted applicants will be asked to have three confidential letters of reference sent directly by their referees to the department, and will be invited to provide supplementary materials to support their application. Longlist interviews will take place by Zoom in January 2024. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to deliver a research talk, teaching demonstration, and in-person interview on the UBC campus.

This position is subject to final budgetary approval. The expected pay range for this position is $9,167 – $10,417/month. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
