What extracurricular activities have you been involved with (UBC related or not)?
At UBC, I am currently the AVP Finance for PSSA (formerly an Outreach Director), a Jr. Sponsorship executive for UBC K-Wave, a Reimbursement Coordinator for the AUS, and a Go Global Imagine Day Orientation Leader. I will also have the honour of going on exchange with Go Global to Seoul in the upcoming year. Additionally, I was heavily involved in my high school’s music and leadership departments.
What is your best study strategy/tip?
Take full advantage of the resources you are given! It’s not necessarily the most typical study tip, but I think it’s always good to ask for help because people are always willing to help. If you’re reading this, you know that you have access to APAC for aid and strategies for your academics, but I also strongly recommend asking your professors, TA’s, and even your classmates about any questions you might have about an assignment (this includes going to them after the exam and getting an answer key to LEARN from your mistakes). After all, making mistakes is something to be expected (especially in a new environment), but how you react and process it is something you get to decide. So why not try to make your life easier for yourself, not harder, and who knows, maybe you can even get a better score…!
If you could travel back in time to your first year at UBC, what is one thing you would do differently?
I think it would’ve been fun to be more open to talking to people in the dining halls. There is never quite the same experience as striking up conversations with people at the beginning of the term, and then having them become a permanent part of your life. It’s always a good reminder that everyone is new and experiencing the same nerves as you are, so you can bond quickly with people and find your niche, but remember that you will always have a choice of the people and crowds you end up in, so strike up a conversation!
