Year and program: 4th year, Psychology major, Education minor
Where is home for you? Surrey, BC
What three adjectives best describe you?
Considerate, driven, and honest
What extracurricular activities have you been involved with (UBC related or not)?
Currently, I am a research assistant with the UBC Centre for Infant Cognition, and I work as a gymnastics coach with UBC’s Kinesiology outreach (Active Kids). In these positions I often work with infants and children, which has been a great learning experience, and opportunity to engage with families! In the past, I was involved with UBC’s Public Speaking Club for 3 years, and was VP media during my last year.
What is your best study strategy/tip?
Time management! I really make a point to begin studying for exams in advance, so rather than spending 2-3 days studying right before the test, I like to start a week before the exam and study 2-3 hours a day. This helps consolidate the information over the week, so there’s less blanking out during exams, and allows you to have more time for social activities/other opportunities!
If you could travel back in time to your first year at UBC, what is one thing you would do differently?
I would push myself more to seek out social and career-oriented opportunities. I was very focused on academics, so I spent most of my time in my room studying. Looking back, I could have studied much more efficiently to make time for other opportunities, and I would have encouraged myself to be braver in approaching new roles/situations.
