I’ll admit it—part of the allure of entrepreneurship was the idea of being known as a “founder.” There’s something undeniably cool about creating something of your own, about introducing yourself and saying, “Yeah, I built that.”
Diving into the Unknown
When I first considered joining the Entrepreneurship for Arts Majors program, I was driven by the excitement of bringing my creative ideas to life. As an Arts student, I was already comfortable with abstract thinking and innovation, but the program offered something more—a chance to turn those ideas into tangible solutions and real-world impact.
What really drew me in was the idea that entrepreneurship didn’t have to be formal or intimidating. It wasn’t about perfect plans or boardroom pitches; it was about experimenting, exploring, and letting curiosity guide the process. That approach felt empowering—a space where creativity and practicality could come together to shape something meaningful.
The Program in Action
Once I joined Entrepreneurship for Arts Majors, I quickly realized entrepreneurship isn’t just about having an idea—it’s about how you approach challenges and opportunities. In one workshop, we focused on identifying everyday frustrations and brainstorming creative solutions. It was a game-changer, showing me how overlooked problems could transform into bold ventures with the right mindset.
What seemed intimidating at first—committing to a four-month program while juggling coursework—turned out to be one of my best decisions. The program’s structure was flexible, with workshops spaced perfectly to reflect and apply what I learned. It wasn’t just theory; it was hands-on, practical, and energizing.
The real magic came from working with peers from diverse backgrounds. Collaborating with others gave me fresh perspectives and showed me how my Arts skills—like critical thinking and storytelling—weren’t just useful but essential. I left workshops with new confidence, knowing my creativity was a powerful tool for solving problems and presenting ideas.
Why You Should Take the Leap
One of the biggest takeaways for me was learning how to turn ambiguity into action. Entrepreneurship is all about diving into the unknown, and this program gave me the tools and confidence to do exactly that. From brainstorming to refining ideas, I learned to approach challenges with curiosity, creativity, and an open mind.
Since completing the program, I’ve kept the momentum going. As Engagement Director at Innovation OnBoard, I help our team turn bold ideas into ventures through dynamic workshops and our flagship pitch competition. As an Engagement Associate at Innovation UBC, I connect students to resources, spark collaborations, and empower them to think big and take action.
If you’re on the fence about joining because you’re worried about time or think you need it all figured out, don’t be. This program meets you where you are and helps you grow from there. Whether you’re curious about entrepreneurship or ready to explore your potential, take the leap. You’ll leave with more than just knowledge—you’ll leave with the confidence to create, innovate, and surprise yourself.
If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking, “Why hasn’t anyone fixed this yet?” or “I bet I could start something amazing,”—this is your chance. Don’t wait for the “perfect” idea or moment—just take the leap. Applications for Entrepreneurship for Arts Majors are open until January. Who knows? Maybe one day, you’ll be the one showing others what’s possible.
