Harsev Oshan, a third-year international student majoring in Political Science and a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, was elected President of the Arts Undergraduate Society (AUS) back in April 2012.
Meet Alex Pysklywec: Militarization along the U.S.-Mexico border
Alex Pysklywec, graduating Geography student and recipient of an Arts Undergraduate Research Award (AURA), currently works with Geography professor Dr. Juanita Sundberg to examine the implications of militarization along the U.S.-Mexico border. In addition to conducting internet based research, Pysklywec traveled to Brownsville, Texas three times to observe the border wall, to carry out archival research at local institutions, as well as to interview policymakers and local citizens.

Sophia Kim recognized by the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education
UBC Arts Co-op student Sophia Kim has been recognized by the Canadian Association For Co-operative Education (CAFCE) for her outstanding work with Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC). During her co-op work term, Sophia Kim conducted interviews with individuals from First Nations groups, the private sector, and government – culminating in preliminary conclusions on the relationship between treaties and economic development.
Meet Frank Hangler: An interdisciplinary approach to learning
Fascinated by many things, but particularly focusing on history, literature, computer science, and chemistry in high school, Frank entered UBC and elected to study political science. While studying at UBC, Frank had developed his programming skills by designing and maintaining various websites while working as a political science research assistant.

Meet Elle-Maija Tailfeathers: Her film “Bloodland” accepted into international festivals
Bloodland, directed by Film Production student Elle-Maija Tailfeathers, has been accepted into the Riddu Riddu International Indigenous Festival in Norway and the Tulsa International Film Festival in Oklahoma. The film addresses the global impact of gas and oil exploration with a focus on the hydraulic fracturing in Kainaiwa, otherwise known as the Blood Reserve, in Southern Alberta.
