In the first part of this talk, Dr. Nesrine Basheer engages in a conversation with Dr. Lama Nassif about recent research in Arabic Second Language Acquisition (SLA) and ways to translate findings from this research into pedagogical applications in the Arabic classroom. The second part will be a conversation with attendees where we think, as practitioners, researchers, and curriculum developers, about the most urgent questions that would help advance research and practice in Arabic pedagogy.
Dr. Lama Nassif is an Associate Teaching Professor, Arabic Studies, at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar. Lama Nassif is Associate Professor of Arabic Studies at Williams College, where she teaches Arabic, second language acquisition (SLA), and sociolinguistics. She was also Queen Rania Foundation – Education Endowment Foundation Teaching and Learning Resources Fellow (2022-2023) in Amman, Jordan. Her research interests include noticing and attention in second language (L2) development, sociolinguistic development in L2 Arabic acquisition, and the interface between SLA research and L2 pedagogy. Lama has taught Arabic at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, The University of Texas at Austin, Middlebury College, and Williams College, and was a visiting scholar at The University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Nesrine Basheer is an Assistant Professor of Teaching in the Department of Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia. She is an applied linguist, a specialist in teaching Arabic as a foreign language, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her research interests include the teaching and assessment of writing, cohesion and coherence in Arabic first- and second-language writing, and the multidialectal approach to teaching Arabic. Nesrine has taught Arabic at the American University in Cairo, the United Nations, the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Maryland, and the University of Sydney.

ما هو آخر ما توصلت إليه الأبحاث في مجال اكتساب اللغة العربية لغةً ثانيةً؟ وكيف يمكننا ترجمة نتائج تلك الأبحاث إلى تطبيقات تربوية داخل صف اللغة العربية؟ ندعوكم لحضور لقاء تجريه د. نسرين بشير مع د. لمى ناصيف تحاولان في الجزء الأول منه الإجابة عن هذين السؤالين ومن ثم العمل معكم، الحضور الكرام من أهل البحث والتدريس وتطوير المناهج، على التفكير في الأسئلة التي من شأنها إثراء الأجندة البحثية والتطبيقية لمجال تعليم اللغة العربية. يأتي هذا اللقاء ضمن فعاليات “أسبوع التعددية اللغوية ٢٠٢٤” بكلية الآداب بجامعة كولومبيا البريطانية
د. لمى يوسف ناصيف أستاذة مشاركة، مسار التعليم، في جامعة كارنيغي ميلون في قطر. عملت أستاذة مشاركة في كلية ويليامز في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية ودرّست فيها العربية واللسانيات، وأيضًا في كلية ميدلبري وجامعة تكساس في أوستن. في العام الدراسي الماضي ۲۰۲۲-۲۰۲۳، عملت زميلةً في مؤسسة الملكة رانيا للتعليم والتنمية في الأردن للعمل على مشروع مصادر التعليم والتعلم بالتعاون مع مؤسسة الوقف التعليمي في المملكة المتحدة لتطوير الأساليب التعليمية المستندة إلى الأبحاث التربوية. تركز لمى في أبحاثها على العمليات المعرفية في اكتساب اللغة العربية لغة ثانية وعلى تطور الكفايات اللغوية الاجتماعية لدى متعلميها، وتهتمّ بالتلاقي بين أبحاث اكتساب اللغة الثانية وأساليبها التطبيقية
د. نسرين بشير أستاذة مساعدة (فرع التعليم) بقسم الدراسات الآسيوية في جامعة كولومبيا البريطانية، كندا، وزميلة أكاديمية التعليم العالي البريطانية. قامت بتدريس اللغة العربية لغة أجنبية في مؤسسات عدة منها جامعة سيدني وجامعة تكساس بأوستن وجامعة ميريلاند وكلية التربية بجامعة كولومبيا وجامعة مدينة نيويورك والأمم المتحدة والجامعة الأمريكية بالقاهرة. يركز مشروعها البحثي على تدريس وتقييم مهارتي الكتابة والتحدث باللغة العربية
