Arts Multilingual Week

Join us from March 4 to March 8 in the Arts Student Centre to celebrate multilingualism during Arts Multilingual Week 2024! Immerse yourself in various activities as we reflect on multilingualism as a practice, socialize across languages, and perform multilingualism through artistic means. Participate by registering your place in several contests to showcase original work!


From this Land: Literary Arts Scholars Indigenous to BC

From the Department of English’s Critical Conversations series, comes “From this Land”, co-organized by EL&L PhD student Hann Scurlock (Chickasaw Nation). This event features UBC School of Music faculty member Dr. Dylan Robinson and EL&L PhD students Leah Alfred-Olmedo and Alexa Manuel.


UBC Spring Career Fair 2024

UBC Chamber Choir

The Chamber Choir is a 24-voice mixed ensemble conducted by graduate students in choral conducting in consultation with Dr. Langager. This choir performs music from all periods, including motets, madrigals, and contemporary compositions.


UBC Symphony Orchestra: Concerto Competition Winner

Join us for a special evening with the UBC Symphony Orchestra, a 90-member full symphony orchestra that performs symphonic works from the 18th century to the present day. It presents six regular concerts each academic year at the world-class Chan Centre for the Performing Arts and gives special performances both on and off campus.


Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon 2024

Each spring, art communities around the world come together to help correct Wikipedia’s gender biases and improve the content of under-represented persons on the tenth-most-visited site on the Internet. Help balance the imbalance by creating and editing Wikipedia articles about artists and curators who are women, 2SLGBTQ+, gender non-binary, people of colour, Black and Indigenous, as well as related activist art movements and organizations.

The 2024 Phil Lind Initiative series Pop Politics is a novel and nuanced exploration of how pop culture has influenced and shaped how we understand, experience, and practice politics in the United States. This month, join Viet Thanh Nguyen (March 14th) and Xiuhtezcatl Martinez (March 21st) as they speak on their respective work, activism, and representations as artists.

Some Day My (Dark) Prince Will Come: Fairy Tales and Vampires with Dr. Kim Snowden

Join the upcoming event from The Compass Arts Prof Talks Series as Dr. Kim Snowden speaks on how vampires and the cultural, literary, and folkloric roots share similarities to fairy tales. In contemporary representation they are usually associated with distinctive characteristics – vampires are blood-sucking villains who come out at night while fairy tale characters are heroes on a quest for happiness, love, and romance.
