UBC welcomes Dr. Kamal Al-Solaylee as new Director of School of Journalism, Writing, and Media

The University of British Columbia welcomes Dr. Kamal Al-Solaylee as the new Director of the School of Journalism, Writing, and Media (JWAM).Dr. Al-Solaylee will begin a five-year term as director on September 1, 2021. He is currently a professor at the Ryerson University School of Journalism, and worked at the Globe and Mail as an Editor for Report on Business, as well as a theatre critic.

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) has announced that a total of 58 new projects led by UBC researchers have been awarded funding of $13 million. This funding — part of the Government of Canada’s investment of more than $635 million for research — is awarded through three programs: Partnership Grants, Partnership Development Grants, and Insight Grants.
